Erin’s Baby Shower

This post is WAY over due…back in January I hosted a baby shower for one of my besties at her mother-in-law’s house. I had so much fun looking up cute projects on Pinterest and especially had fun with the vintage ladybug theme. Everything from red&black cake pops, burlap, red&black candies, cake, games, mason jars and more!

I was fortunate enough that my big sister, Kaelynn, happily volunteered to make the cake for the shower.  And it turned out BEAUTIFUL.  Look how cute the mom-to-be was!  Cannot believe her sweet baby is already here and is 7 weeks tomorrow.  Cannot get enough of that cutie pie miss Sarah.

Love this shot of the four of us….except that my eyes are kind of lazy-looking! We are so blessed by our friendship with Michael & Erin and looking forward to continuing to grow in our relationships together.  I’m praying that God has a plan fo us to be in community with this beautiful couple.

Erin made out like a bandit with cute clothes for Sarah and the awesome diaper cake on the table in the picture above.  Erin’s parents made the diaper cake and it turned out SO CUTE!  They did a fabulous job.  I’m definitely going to attempt to make one for another shower coming up in July.

We strung 10 onesies on the window with twine and clothes clips and I thought it added such a cute touch!

There were a few games/activities that we had going on at the shower.  Above was in the entryway as guests arrived to the party – loved an excuse to use my burlap again.  They could write sweet words of encouragement/prayer/advice for the parents-to-be.  We also played a “guess the parent” game – this was fun because Michael and Erin’s moms sent me fun facts about silly things they did when they were little.  Everyone had to guess who did each item on the list by raising a pink onesie or a blue onesie.

I also repurposed some quart size mason jars for vases all around the common areas of the house.  I think they added such a nice flair.  I also had pint size mason jars with the burlap and red/green ribbons to use as cups.  I absolutely LOVE using mason jars as party cups – love. love. love.

We had a candy bar full of red and black candies to go along with the color scheme.  Loved that people got to take home some treats.  We also had yummy cookies that Erin’s mom brought and they were so delicious.  I was definitely munching on them for a couple days after.

The party was so much fun, and now I cannot believe that Sarah really is already here!  Erin and Michael are such awesome parents and I love seeing them interact with Sarah.  My constant prayer is that the Lord continue to shape their family as He see fit, and that we do get to be in community soon!  So blessed by their friendship.

Next post will be a bunch of inspiration photos for another shower I’m helping plan for this summer. Love baby season!

Mother’s Day & Nephew’s Birthday!

This weekend was time to celebrate! My oldest nephew turned 13 on Saturday and, of course, Mother’s Day was Sunday. We had a nice BBQ at my mom’s house Sunday evening. It was still a bit chilly for pool volleyball, but I’m definitely looking forward to those weeks coming up soon. So ready for some fun in the sun…and of course looking forward to creaming the guys in volleyball! Here’s a few fun pictures from the evening.

My little sisters aren’t so little anymore.  Absolutely love the women they are growing up to be! I’m sure they’ll hate me for posting this picture, but that’s what you get when you steal my camera. 🙂  I think this picture is really cute and captures their goofy nature!

My niece is such a doll!  Cannot believe how much she has grown up over the years.  So grateful that God brought her family back to Texas.  Love, love, love my time with her!  Looking forward to summer movie sleepovers with this awesome girl. 🙂

Had to get a picture with the two party VIPs.  Cameron was doing his best to photo bomb a picture with mi madre, but we decided we’d surprise him with kisses!  Love his silly smile.  I seriously cannot believe this sweet boy is a teenager.  Makes me feel OLD, but that’s because I was 12 when he was born.

Love this picture of mi madre and me!  I am so blessed to have her as a mom.  She is a true example of someone who seeks after the Lord.  I’m encouraged by her strength to persevere and her love for her family.  I hope that when God decides to grow Len and I’s family that I love the way she loves.

I’m just going to go ahead and say it.  My sweet nephew is so handsome! Normally he’s being really, really silly in pictures….but I actual got him SMILING!!!!! I know I already said this, but I really cannot believe he’s 13.  He’s got such a heart for the Lord and I’m so excited to see what God has in-store for his teenage journey. And I’m really excited for the day he has baby cousins so he can tell them all about their papa. 🙂  My sister and her hubs have done a fine job raising this boy into such a gentleman.

That’s right, ladies and gentleman, momma’s getting a gun!  We all pitched in to buy her a pistol.  Next steps is we’re all going out to lunch in a couple of weeks and helping her pick it out together. Gotta love my redneck family. 🙂

I have to say it again…I am so blessed by my family!  God has definitely had us on a narrow journey full of sadness and tears, but through it all He’s offered peace, comfort and redemption.  So blessed. So incredibly blessed.  Couldn’t imagine a better family!

Kasling Gender Reveal Party

Katina & kat

I had the wonderful opportunity to throw a gender reveal party for my sweet friend, Katina!  Let me tell you….I was so nervous.  What if she could tell what I knew the gender was.  I was fortunate to already have guessed it was a girl so when it came time for the picture above I wore the pink hair bow because that was my guess two weeks before this picture!  I absolutely love this picture of Katina and I…definitely frame worthy!

Everyone had to wear their guess – pink hair bow for a girl or green bow tie for a boy!  Let me tell you – there was LOTS of green bow ties worn.  I had so much fun trying not to act surprised by all the green bow ties!

We got to meet the cutest little ducklings from one of Katina’s neighbors.  I absolutely LOVE this picture of Carli.  I think it’s safe to say she was happy to meet such sweet little ducklings.  Not to mention her eyes are GORGEOUS in this photo!

It's a Girl!

Love that so many people were able to come be a part of the Kasling Gender Reveal.  And it’s funny because most people thought it was going to be a boy….but oh how they were wrong! 🙂 Love the Joy in Katina’s facial expression and jump!  And now that they’ve picked a name, I cannot wait to meet her!! I had a lot of fun making the balloon box.

The colors for the decor were coral/peach and mint.  I made a couple banners “bow or beau” and “baby kasling” that hung in the dining room.  Loved how they turned out!

I had fun trying out a new cake recipe and top with whipped cream instead of frosting. Love the “whipped” look.  Saw a fun tutorial for a banner for the cake…it was supposed to hang tied to two dowel rods, but I left the dowel rods on the table up at our house. Love how the cake turned out.  And it was delicious!

Gender Reveal Party Guests

It was so great that Trey’s parents were able to come up to join the fun.  Loved that so many people were able to come together and celebrate!

KCha becomes KKim!

On Sunday, April 28 we had the pleasure of witnessing a beautiful marriage between two God-seekers. The love Kristy and Chris portray for one another is so pure and holy. They truly are beautiful representations for how we are called to love one another as Christ does.

I completely forgot to bring my SLR, so I have some pretty quick shots from my point-n-shoot.  Not to mention the hubs was a stand in photographer because he had a better view. 🙂

Not to mention KCha was a BEAUTIFUL bride. We had such a great weekend celebrating her and her new marriage. On Saturday after her rehearsal we met for manis/pedis in Plano. We enjoyed a couple hours of getting pampered, drinking mimosas and eating yummy snacks. It was a great weekend reunion with my old community group. These girls have been so pivital in my journey with the Lord and I am so blessed to not only call them friends, but true sisters!

These girls have been true counselors always pointing one another back to what the Word of God says, and I am so grateful for that.   “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14

Though we are no longer a group, our friendships remain strong.  With three of the girls now out of state (Florida, Massachusetts, and Missouri), our times together are truly cherished!  We definitely need to make our reunions more frequent!!!

Greek Dinner

My sweet, sweet friend Katina hosted a delightful Greek Easter dinner on May 4; Greek Easter follows the lunar calendar. We loved that Katina invited us to share in her tradition! I cannot believe I didn’t take a single picture of ANYONE at the dinner.  Especially cannot believe I don’t have any pictures from the night before when Katina and I baked the delicious koulourakia cookies.

It was so nice to spend some quality time with Katina on Friday as we baked enough cookies to feed an army.  I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a long time!

The dinner was delicious and I’m definitely going to need the recipe for the kopama and the koulourakia cookies.  The hubs will definitely be asking for these again very soon.  We’d do some serious damage to a batch of koulourakia.  The subtle orange flavor was to die for!

It was so nice in the midst of a chaotic schedule to have some intentional time with friends and new friends. God truly is devine in the relationships that he brings into our lives, and we are so blessed to have Trey and Katina in our lives!

Learning to Rest

I have a feeling this post is going to be a tough one.  For those of you who’ve known me for a while you know how hard it is for me to rest.  I don’t mean just getting a good night’s sleep…I mean really stopping and resting my body, mind and spirit.

Quiet time with the Lord has always been a challenge for me to consistently keep up with (I know – terrible way to put it). When I’m diligently in the Word and seeking after Him each day has a totally different meaning, I have more energy and I just feel complete joy…but then when something happens and I get out of my routine I forget how much better it is to be truly running after Him!  Why is it that when things in life are going well we forget that we need Him more than any other blessing?

I subscribe to a Proverbs 31 devotional, and of course on days where I cannot stop thinking about what needs to get done at work or at home I don’t think I have the time to read it.  Today I was SO glad I caught up on the past few devos I’ve missed.  Yesterday’s devo was the one that hit home – Learn to Rest.

Reading the devotional I laughed because the perspective of the author was exactly my reaction – if I just get some more sleep I’ll feel better and have more energy and feel rested. When will I ever remember that feeling rested, restored and renewed are things that I have no control over nor will I ever!  I’ve always been a person who loves to be in control of any situation, and my continued prayer will be that I remain joyful in the fact that I don’t have to be in control.  Control is an exhausting weakness to have!  Thank the Lord I’m truly not in control of anything!  I’m so grateful that whatever happens with the next steps in our lives are truly His to control and not ours!  We just have to walk where He leads us.

“He restores my soul.” Psalm 23:3a (ESV)

The remedy for our restlessness and weariness are nothing we can cure on our own, but in God alone. It’s only when we truly stop and remove ourselves from our busyness (turn off the phone, open up His Word and truly let Him restore us).  My prayer is that I remember to do this on a daily basis.  There is nothing more refreshing then starting my day in His Word and in prayer/conversation with Him.

Hope this encourages you as it did me.  You can find the devotional here.  I promise you won’t be disappointed.
