Family Vacay: Nashville, TN

We had a short trip to Nashville this weekend with the hubs family and let me tell you – we had a blast.  I absolutely loved the variety of music the city had to offer. Nashville really is music city.

The four of us ( hubs, SIL, BIL and I) loaded into my car on Thursday late afternoon and hit the road – after a mini hail storm. We drove through Greenville, TX and then 10 minutes later on the radio they announced that a tornado was on the ground in Nashville. That may or may not have lead me to slam on the gas to get out of there!  We ended up spending about 7-8 hours of the trip in awful rain. Lucky for me my leg of the trip was rain free – just had to avoid the hail and tornadoes. 😉

We got to Nashville around 7:00am on Friday morning, at breakfast at the hotel with the in-laws and then headed downtown. We walked around a bit, toured the beautiful Ryman Auditorium. They were prepping for a concert so we were’t able to get on stage.  The history of that place is beautiful. I fell in love with country music all over again in Nashville. Seriously.

After the tour we walked around and explored downtown Nashville a bit more. The SIL and I tried on beautiful dresses at the Bettie Page store. I fell in love with one particular dress and I’m now regretting not buying it. Might have to make another trip to Nashville.

We met our friend, Rob, who happened to be in town as well for lunch at The Pharmacy. I would definitely go back there the next time we happen to be in Nashville. The burger was one of the best I’ve had. The bread was delicious and loved their fries!  Not to mention they had a great beer/cider selection.

After lunch we headed to the hotel to get ready to head to Opryland for the Grand Ole Opry.  We had such a great time at the concert.  I absolutely love the history of the Grand Ole Opry and all the music talent they bring in. Love that they want to showcase a bunch of different music styles and the entertainment was awesome. We got to hear Kree Harrison, Ricky Skaggs, Bobby Osborn & Rock Top Express, The Willis Clan, MercyMe and a few others.  It was MercyMe’s first time performing at the Opry and they did a pheomenal job. I cried just about the whole way through I Can Only Imagine and loved their two new songs they showcased. Looking forward to buying the album.

Then on Saturday we had a delicious breakfast at the Frothy Monkey in Franklin, TN and store hopped for a couple hours. We made our way into a store called, Philanthropy, and were surrounded by worship music as we walked in the door. They donate 10% of their in-store profits to charity and 100% of their online purchases!  Loved their clothes and looking forward to shopping online!

Then we made our way back downtown to the Country Music Hall of Fame for the afternoon. Loved learning about the heritage of country music and learning about different artists. There was a Reba exhibit and I really enjoyed learning about her history. I’ve always been a fan of her music!

After we finished touring the museum I ventured down the hall and found the Hatch Print Show space and loved getting to see their letterpress studio. I purchased a print for my kitchen and I cannot wait to show it off once I have it framed!

Then we headed to Rippy’s for some delicious ribs.  I mean, seriously. These ribs were fall off the bone good. And I loved their spicy BBQ sauce!

We ended the night by walking around listening to street music and trying to find another bar to listen to some local music but they were all so crammed it was hard to find any space for the six of us.

All in all, I’d say it was a successful trip to Nashville filled with great food, music and family time. I could definitely go back there on a regular basis. It’d be dangerous if we lived there! I’d want to be out listing to music all the time!

Until next time. 🙂
