Catching Up

Wow, it’s been WAY too long since my last blog post. I’ll be honest with you. I let a lot of things get in the way, but I’m excited to be claiming back my life and doing the things I’m passionate about in 2014.  Let me catch you up on what’s happened since May 2013.

1) Girls beach trip to Galveston with some of my beautiful girlfriends and made new friends as well. Those were beautiful memories made! I had the pleasure of driving with Carli down to the beach and so enjoyed our conversations. Even though we may go months without seeing each other we so easily pick right back up where we left off!

2) The hubs and I adopted a second puppy and she’s now 10 months old.  She’s as cute as can be and we are so blessed to have two beautiful furbabies!  It may have taken her big sister (5 1/2 years old) about six months to warm up to the baby, but now they are almost best buds!

3) We hosted Katina’s baby shower at my house and so enjoyed having all her friends and family here to celebrate her and baby Joy!

4) We had lots of family time and enjoy soaking up every moment. And this Irish gal has lots of family so anytime we’re together it’s a party!

5) Most of my sisters and I flew up to PA for a four day weekend to spend time with our beautiful grandmom, two of our aunts and a few cousins. We had such a great time! Wish I would have brought my real camera!  Those memories will last a life time and we will definitely be flying back up to PA this year!

6) Spent Christmas with Len’s family down in San Antonio and had a great time. His aunt snapped a few great family pictures that I unfortunately STILL need to print & frame. It’s on my list for this month for sure!

7) I took my first maternity photos for a friend of mine and I’m really happy with how they turned out! They are such a beautiful couple so that made it really easy.  They have since had their precious baby boy and I cannot wait to meet him.

8) I had my last day at LOOMIS. This was a change that God made evidently clear it was a part of His big beautiful plan. I never imagined how hard it would be for me to leave LOOMIS, but looking back almost a month later I am thankful and excited for what He has in store for me.

9) Started a new job with an agency based out of Kansas City and the best part about it is…I get to work FROM HOME!!!! God’s plan is so beautiful, sovereign and perfect. I don’t know why I think I should be in control when His plan is always WAY BETTER than our own!

10) Because of the new job I’m getting to spend way more time with my amazingly awesome husband! We are going on walks every day, going kayaking more often, and just spending more time together. I am just soaking up all this time!!!

11) I ran a half marathon a week ago with my sister and sister-in-law.  And let me tell you…it was ROUGH. But I am so excited to run my next one!  Who’s with me?!

There are many, many, many more things that happened over the past year – but this is just a glimpse!

Mother’s Day & Nephew’s Birthday!

This weekend was time to celebrate! My oldest nephew turned 13 on Saturday and, of course, Mother’s Day was Sunday. We had a nice BBQ at my mom’s house Sunday evening. It was still a bit chilly for pool volleyball, but I’m definitely looking forward to those weeks coming up soon. So ready for some fun in the sun…and of course looking forward to creaming the guys in volleyball! Here’s a few fun pictures from the evening.

My little sisters aren’t so little anymore.  Absolutely love the women they are growing up to be! I’m sure they’ll hate me for posting this picture, but that’s what you get when you steal my camera. 🙂  I think this picture is really cute and captures their goofy nature!

My niece is such a doll!  Cannot believe how much she has grown up over the years.  So grateful that God brought her family back to Texas.  Love, love, love my time with her!  Looking forward to summer movie sleepovers with this awesome girl. 🙂

Had to get a picture with the two party VIPs.  Cameron was doing his best to photo bomb a picture with mi madre, but we decided we’d surprise him with kisses!  Love his silly smile.  I seriously cannot believe this sweet boy is a teenager.  Makes me feel OLD, but that’s because I was 12 when he was born.

Love this picture of mi madre and me!  I am so blessed to have her as a mom.  She is a true example of someone who seeks after the Lord.  I’m encouraged by her strength to persevere and her love for her family.  I hope that when God decides to grow Len and I’s family that I love the way she loves.

I’m just going to go ahead and say it.  My sweet nephew is so handsome! Normally he’s being really, really silly in pictures….but I actual got him SMILING!!!!! I know I already said this, but I really cannot believe he’s 13.  He’s got such a heart for the Lord and I’m so excited to see what God has in-store for his teenage journey. And I’m really excited for the day he has baby cousins so he can tell them all about their papa. 🙂  My sister and her hubs have done a fine job raising this boy into such a gentleman.

That’s right, ladies and gentleman, momma’s getting a gun!  We all pitched in to buy her a pistol.  Next steps is we’re all going out to lunch in a couple of weeks and helping her pick it out together. Gotta love my redneck family. 🙂

I have to say it again…I am so blessed by my family!  God has definitely had us on a narrow journey full of sadness and tears, but through it all He’s offered peace, comfort and redemption.  So blessed. So incredibly blessed.  Couldn’t imagine a better family!

Graduation Party – Part 2

Part two of Colleen’s graduation party success! Post 1 was all about the decor, but post 2 is all about the people.  My aunt Jacquelynn and Grandmom flew in from Delaware for the joyous occasion on Thursday night! I always love being able to spend time with my family!  Thursday night I came over after work and enjoyed seeing Aunt J and Grandmom. Friday night was Colleen’s graduation, and then Saturday was the party.  We had at least 45 people stop by throughout the evening in honor of our beautiful graduate!

This is another photo I forgot to share in my last post about the graduation party.  We made a hanging banner with squares of scrapbook paper (in this case different green patterned papers) and stenciled letters.  We hung the banner on twine and mounted to the ceiling with a little tape!  The banner turned out so cute, and was perfect for taking pictures.  We had quite the photoshoot with the graduate and the banner!

It wouldn’t be a graduation party with a little cake in the face!  Don’t worry – we made sure it was the gluten-free cake. 🙂  Family traditions are the best.  The first cake in the face was at my high school graduation 7 years ago!  Thanks Caryn for starting that!  Gotta love action shots!

And an after shot, of course!  They are even beautiful with icing all over their faces.  This was moments before Colleen decided to scrape icing from her chin and smear on my forehead and hair!!

Loved this little bread box that held more of the vases, balloons and the wine corks in a cylinder vase!

The graduate and our sweet niece, Kaley!

The graduate and I!  Unfortunately this is a shot up my nose….but I love it anyway!

Mom and the graduate!  Look at that proud face on our beautiful momma!

DSC_0050Len and his pretty sister-in-law.  I think this was before she showed him the mad punching skills he taught her. 🙂

And here, folks, is her mad punching skills.  Watch out bad guys!

I was so grateful that I was able to spend time with my beautiful grandmom who flew down to Dallas all the way from Delaware.  Enjoyed our sweet time together!

DSC_0115It’s hard to tell in this photo, but this is Colleen showing off her new iPad from the sisters!  Let me tell you – sisters are the best!  I don’t know what I would do without my four beautiful, amazing, smart sisters!  They each are such a blessing from the Lord and I am so grateful!

All-in-all it was a perfect celebration!  We had some great food, yummy sangria and great time with family and friends.  So glad we were all able to come celebrate Colleen graduating from UNT.  I’m so excited to see where the Lord takes her next on her journey.  The Lord has great things in place for her and I cannot wait to see the plans unfold.

Celebrating Mom!

This weekend was a fun-filled weekend that I will hopefully have more time later to delve into details.  But I wanted to share our family’s Sunday.  As many of you know, Sunday was Mother’s Day.  A time to really let Mom know how much she means to you.

Let me give you a little insight into my mom.  She is a prayer warrior, a wonderful encourager, a guidance counselor, a coach, a friend, a mother, a grand mother, a sister, and so much more.  She has the type of faith that I hope one day I have.  She has a relationship with the Lord that is just inspiring.  I go through each day wanting to live my life for the Lord like my mom does.  She has more strength than anyone I know.  Our family has been through so much over the past two years and my mom has even proven how much stronger she is through it all.

Below is a picture of my mom and me that is on my bulletin board at work next to two pictures.  A picture of my dad & me and a picture of the hubs & me.  I was a mess on that dance floor with my mom, and I’m sure our guests that day didn’t know how to handle it.  But I was honored that my mom would dance with me….and you know what?  I could feel my dad dancing right along with us in heaven.  Though it was a dance full of tears – they were both of sadness and joy all at the same time.  Talk about some messy love. 🙂

The family got together to celebrate the mom’s in our family and also two family birthdays.  I hope you got a little insight into how awesome my mom is.  So thankful the Lord chose me to be one of her daughters and so excited to see how the rest of the story unfolds!

I hope one day I can be the mom to my daughters that my mom has been to me.  Such a woman of faith, inspiration and grace.  Love you, Mom!
