KCha becomes KKim!

On Sunday, April 28 we had the pleasure of witnessing a beautiful marriage between two God-seekers. The love Kristy and Chris portray for one another is so pure and holy. They truly are beautiful representations for how we are called to love one another as Christ does.

I completely forgot to bring my SLR, so I have some pretty quick shots from my point-n-shoot. ¬†Not to mention the hubs was a stand in photographer because he had a better view. ūüôā

Not to mention KCha was a BEAUTIFUL bride. We had such a great weekend celebrating her and her new marriage. On Saturday after her rehearsal we met for manis/pedis in Plano. We enjoyed a couple hours of getting pampered, drinking mimosas and eating yummy snacks. It was a great weekend reunion with my old community group. These girls have been so pivital in my journey with the Lord and I am so blessed to not only call them friends, but true sisters!

These girls have been true counselors always pointing one another back to what the Word of God says, and I am so grateful for that. ¬† “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”¬†Proverbs 11:14

Though we are no longer a group, our friendships remain strong.  With three of the girls now out of state (Florida, Massachusetts, and Missouri), our times together are truly cherished!  We definitely need to make our reunions more frequent!!!

Greek Dinner

My sweet, sweet friend Katina hosted a delightful Greek Easter dinner on May 4; Greek Easter follows the lunar calendar. We loved that Katina invited us to share in her tradition! I cannot believe I didn’t take a single picture of ANYONE at the dinner. ¬†Especially cannot believe I don’t have any pictures from the night before when Katina and I baked the delicious koulourakia cookies.

It was so nice to spend some quality time with Katina on Friday as we baked enough cookies to feed an army. ¬†I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a long time!

The dinner was delicious and I’m definitely going to need the recipe for the kopama and the koulourakia cookies. ¬†The hubs will definitely be asking for these again very soon. ¬†We’d do some serious damage to a batch of koulourakia. ¬†The subtle orange flavor was to die for!

It was so nice in the midst of a chaotic schedule to have some intentional time with friends and new friends. God truly is devine in the relationships that he brings into our lives, and we are so blessed to have Trey and Katina in our lives!

Learning to Rest

I have a feeling this post is going to be a tough one. ¬†For those of you who’ve known me for a while you know how hard it is for me to rest. ¬†I don’t mean just getting a good night’s sleep…I mean really¬†stopping and resting my body, mind and spirit.

Quiet time with the Lord has always been a challenge for me to consistently keep up with (I know – terrible way to put it). When I’m diligently in the Word and seeking after Him each day has a totally different meaning, I have more energy and I just feel complete joy…but then when something happens and I get out of my routine I forget how much better it is to be truly running after Him! ¬†Why is it that when things in life are going well we forget that we need Him more than any other blessing?

I subscribe to a Proverbs 31 devotional, and of course on days where I cannot stop thinking about what needs to get done at work or at home I don’t think I have the time to read it. ¬†Today I was SO glad I caught up on the past few devos I’ve missed. ¬†Yesterday’s devo was the one that hit home –¬†Learn to Rest.

Reading the devotional I laughed because the perspective of the author was exactly my reaction – if I just get some more sleep I’ll feel better and have more energy and feel rested.¬†When will I ever remember that feeling rested, restored and renewed are things that I have no control over nor will I ever! ¬†I’ve always been a person who loves to be in control of any situation, and my continued prayer will be that I remain joyful in the fact that I don’t have to be in control. ¬†Control is an exhausting weakness to have! ¬†Thank the Lord I’m truly not in control of anything! ¬†I’m so grateful that whatever happens with the next steps in our lives are truly His to control and not ours! ¬†We just have to walk where He leads us.

“He restores my soul.” Psalm 23:3a (ESV)

The remedy for our restlessness and¬†weariness¬†are nothing we can cure on our own, but in God alone. It’s only when we truly stop and remove ourselves from our busyness (turn off the phone, open up His Word and truly let Him restore us). ¬†My prayer is that I remember to do this on a daily basis. ¬†There is nothing more refreshing then starting my day in His Word and in prayer/conversation with Him.

Hope this encourages you as it did me. ¬†You can find the devotional here. ¬†I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Home Organization – Phase 1 – The Office

Part of my goal for 2013 is to organize and decorate each room in our house from start to finish. ¬†I’d like to make my goal finish one room each month (and yes each bathroom counts as their own room). ¬†I’m starting with the office because that is where I will sew and put together any crafty things for the other rooms.

Below are a few of my inspiration pins for my office.

The bad news is that it’s already halfway through January, so I have some work cut out for me. The good news is that I’ve spent all day going through and purging what needs to be purged from the office. It feels great to get rid of things, and it will be even better once our office truly feels like ours!

I’ll post pictures of what the office looks like now, and what it looks like at the end of January!

Graduation Party – Part 2

Part two of Colleen’s graduation party success! Post 1 was all about the decor, but post 2 is all about the people. ¬†My aunt Jacquelynn and Grandmom flew in from Delaware for the joyous occasion on Thursday night! I always love being able to spend time with my family! ¬†Thursday night I came over after work and enjoyed seeing Aunt J and Grandmom. Friday night was Colleen’s graduation, and then Saturday was the party. ¬†We had at least 45 people stop by throughout the evening in honor of our beautiful graduate!

This is another photo I forgot to share in my last post about the graduation party.  We made a hanging banner with squares of scrapbook paper (in this case different green patterned papers) and stenciled letters.  We hung the banner on twine and mounted to the ceiling with a little tape!  The banner turned out so cute, and was perfect for taking pictures.  We had quite the photoshoot with the graduate and the banner!

It wouldn’t be a graduation party with a little cake in the face! ¬†Don’t worry – we made sure it was the gluten-free cake. ūüôā ¬†Family traditions are the best. ¬†The first cake in the face was at my high school graduation 7 years ago! ¬†Thanks Caryn for starting that! ¬†Gotta love action shots!

And an after shot, of course!  They are even beautiful with icing all over their faces.  This was moments before Colleen decided to scrape icing from her chin and smear on my forehead and hair!!

Loved this little bread box that held more of the vases, balloons and the wine corks in a cylinder vase!

The graduate and our sweet niece, Kaley!

The graduate and I! ¬†Unfortunately this is a shot up my nose….but I love it anyway!

Mom and the graduate!  Look at that proud face on our beautiful momma!

DSC_0050Len and his pretty sister-in-law. ¬†I think this was before she showed him the mad punching skills he taught her. ūüôā

And here, folks, is her mad punching skills.  Watch out bad guys!

I was so grateful that I was able to spend time with my beautiful grandmom who flew down to Dallas all the way from Delaware.  Enjoyed our sweet time together!

DSC_0115It’s hard to tell in this photo, but this is Colleen showing off her new iPad from the sisters! ¬†Let me tell you – sisters are the best! ¬†I don’t know what I would do without my four beautiful, amazing, smart sisters! ¬†They each are such a blessing from the Lord and I am so grateful!

All-in-all it was a perfect celebration! ¬†We had some great food, yummy sangria and great time with family and friends. ¬†So glad we were all able to come celebrate Colleen graduating from UNT. ¬†I’m so excited to see where the Lord takes her next on her journey. ¬†The Lord has great things in place for her and I cannot wait to see the plans unfold.

Graduation Party Success

My beautiful little sister graduated from UNT last month and we had the joy of throwing her a party.  I had so much fun planning all the decor and even more fun creating everything with my sisters, aunt, mom and niece the day of the party.  Everything turned out perfect, and she was so excited! See below for pictures from the day.

We decorated mason jars with thick burlap ribbon and tied a green bow around each jar. We filled each mason jar with different green, white, and green tipped flowers. We placed 24 vases around the house – entry way, cake table, food spread tables and anywhere else there was room! It turned out beautifully!

As a little extra fun we tied ballons around Colleen’s gift. We got her an iPad and she was SO EXCITED!

We hot glued burlap around each mason jar (quart & pint sizes), and tied green bows around each jar. They turned out super cute. I’m going to use them again for another party later this month, but swap out the green ribbon for red!

Sesame Dinner!

Last night we had friends over for dinner and I wanted to try a few new recipes. Let me just tell you Рour dinner was to die for. I just love it when new recipes are a hit. I wanted to make a fairly healthy meal (always love to start out the week that way.  What did I have in my fridge?  Cauliflower, Spinach and KRAFT Asian Sesame Dressing.

Then I just so happened to be watching P. Allen Smith Garden Home ¬†on PBS on Saturday and saw a wonderful recipe for saut√©ed spinach. ¬†I’m not normally a fan of saut√©ed spinach, but I’ve become a sesame seed junky lately so I knew this had to be on my menu as well. ¬†The food was so good that I didn’t even get a chance to capture a picture of it for this post!

I had been eyeing a cauliflower recipe (roasted garlic cauliflower)  the day before and I just knew that had to be on our dinner menu!

Then came the main course. I’ve really taken a liking to KRAFT “Anything Dressings,” and mostly the Asian Sesame Dressing. It makes a great glaze for salmon, marinade for chicken and a delightful salade dressing! I decided to marinade chicken to go along with my roasted cauliflower and sesame saut√©ed spinach. Not to mention I got to use my new meat tenderizer which is amazing. I let the chicken marinade for 5 hours in the fridge and then off the Hubs went to grill.

All in all I felt like this meal was 5-Star! Definitely all elements are on a rotation now to make way back into our dining room.

Bon Appetit!

Lovely Pinterest Wednesday!

This week I am all about food & home decor!¬† I have just been dying to try some new recipes and have been so excited for the fall recipe I’m seeing.¬† I am quite the pumpkin-addict!

First stop – quick easy breakfast.¬† Cook eggs with spinach and any other goodies you’d like in a muffin tin and then store them in the fridge.¬† Pop them in the microwave and toast your english muffin and there you go! Breakfast for on your way to work!

This recipe I am just dying to make! Chicken Tamale Pie! Shredded chicken, enchilada sauce, cornbread and so much more.¬† A friend at work made it and her and the hubs loved it! I’m waiting for it to get a little colder before I whip this delicious recipe out!¬† Not to mention the picture just captures the yumminess of the dish!

This verse just really spoke to me when I saw it last night. Love it when I can feel God speaking to me through His Word!

What are you pinning? I’m really making a commitment to blog more often as I try my new recipes and continue working on making our house a home!
